Guardian Eyewitness

by on May.20, 2010, under Blog : Photography

I don’t know if you’ve ever come across the Guardian’s Eyewitness series. The idea is for a single powerful image to be released each day in print, online and on the iPad. By displaying a single image only, I think it forces us to look at it in greater detail than we normally would. And there’s a small pro tip box too that gives a few clues on how the shot was achieved. The iPad seems like the perfect place to display these images as you can read here. Wouldn’t mind getting my hands on one, would make a great portfolio…

    That’s a great idea , Nick,
When I worked for a newspaper the daily instruction was “shoot every job as if it is going to be the front page picture”. It certainly focusses the mind.
And of course, with modern informal photography, it is still important to get every shot just right in case it is ordered as a single print, rather than part of a storybook montage.
Nice work on show here BTW
    Cheers,
    Alan

Thanks for your comments Alan. You’ve reminded me that I must find the time to write more blog stories!

Certainly when I work with commercial clients I use a variation of your newspaper instruction. Normally, something along the lines of ‘if there was a single shot you wanted to come away with, what would it be!?’

Had a quick look at your site and good work too! Regards
