Natural nursery

The season of nursery shoots has begun again and, as with previous years, I have a mix of studio, natural and graduation shoots booked up to November. Natural shoots are where I spend a morning or two in the nursery capturing the children whilst they are at their most relaxed and letting their true personalities come out. Here are some examples from a recent shoot with a great combination of some where she’s aware of the camera and others where she’s not. Nurseries and schools are becoming such a large chunk of my work hand that they deserve dedicated websites so please watch this space.

Chelsea Cobbler

The Dune Group’s Chelsea Cobbler brand revealed its new look concession in Oxford Street’s Top Shop last week. Many of the fixtures and fittings are authentic and highly original, from the gnarly wooden work bench to the striking hanging shoe trees with exposed bulbs. I couldn’t help myself going in closer!

Party photography

It was a real pleasure to be asked along to Simon and Elizabeth’s joint 40th birthday party recently to capture the proceedings. The guests were treated to a casino theme night with roulette wheel and card tables. I loved catching a combination of posed and candid shots of hosts and guests having a wonderful time; and hope the pictures act as a lasting reminder of a great event.

Organic searches

Since this site was redesigned I’ve been interested to see who visits by looking at the stats found on the wonderful Google Analytics. From what I can tell over half of the visitors to this site come through organic search on search engines. So what do you think the most popular search term was for getting here? Leicester photographer? Nick Osborne? Talented ex-advertising guy turned photographer?

No. A big majority of visitors arrived via the search term Sandeesh Samra! I took pictures of the ex-Apprentice star a while back at Leicester Prep School and seemingly her hordes of fans can’t get enough of her so visit my site to read the blog post. Well, for this hungry public and the rest of you. here are a few more pictures…

College careers event

For the second year running, I was involved in the Year 9 Careers Workshop at the City of Leicester College. This year it was a speed networking format where groups of student spent 10 minutes with each career representative. Like the next man I could be accused of retelling a story a few too many times – but had to repeat my spiel on Photography as a career 14 times in one morning! Thankfully, I did have a slideshow to show them all; and we did finish each session with a group shot of those who were interested. Just as an aside, I found out last weekend when Radio 4′s Saturday Live came to Leicester that ex-Labour spin doctor, Alastair Campbell, was a City of Leicester College student in the 70s. There you go…

Portrait painting

I had a really interesting last minute job at the University recently. Eminent geneticist and the man that brought us DNA testing and profiling, Sir Alec Jeffreys, is having his portrait painted by Tess Barnes, who has an impressive list of subjects that include Michael Portfillo, Carole Vorderman and Camila Batmanghelidjh of the Kid’s Company. I went along to his office briefly to capture the last of six 2 hour sittings so there was a record of the sessions. Brief it most certainly was as I had all of 10 minutes to work out the best angles whilst blending in and not disturbing them!

Note to self: must blog more often. And tweet. Monthly blogs and a grand total of 3 lifetime tweets are hardly harnessing the power of social media…

Bertie’s new store in the Trafford Centre is fun, eclectic and striking. From the wall of clocks to the chalk boards with messages(‘Man Up’ and ‘Loafing around in style’ are a few on view!), it’s highly original and was a pleasure to photograph. Corporate Race Day

I really enjoyed covering a recent corporate day for Dutch company LeasePlan at the Bedford Autodome hosted by Palmers Sports. All of the party raved about the day and the adrenaline highs they experienced going from off-roaders to go-kart to racing cars and more. Now, it could have been frustrating just recording the day (rather than being involved) but I did get to travel very quickly to the best vantage points around the race tracks! Most of the staff there are clearly frustrated racing drivers and didn’t hesitate to take the corners as quickly as possible to get me there…

School days

Here are a few images from a recent shoot with Leicester Prep School, Stoneygate College. And yes, they’re of the lovely Claudia (you have to admit she’s a pretty good model and model release is never a problem). I’ve always been a great believer that school and nursery photography doesn’t have to be mottled backgrounds and pasted on smiles – so give the pictures a modern look whilst making it enjoyable and painless for the children – as well as myself. I was surprised to count the other day that I will have done over 30 nursery and school shoots by the end of this year and hope to build on this success into next year.

University PR

Sometimes you have just minutes to capture the right shots and this shoot at the end of the summer was a case in point. The Pro VC of the University of Leicester, Keith Schurer, and three members of the Leicestershire Asian Business Association were on very tight schedules but we needed to capture this photo opportunity marking the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding.
