In Focus: Spaces and Stories

It’s been a busy spring with the usual mix of events, portraits, interiors and architectural storytelling, including one slightly chaotic stretch in April involving seven consecutive working days of shooting. Great for the diary, slightly less so for the ever-growing editing queue, although I’ve finally caught up again.

Here are a few recent commissions and highlights from the last couple of months.

Lifestyle and architectural photography

I spent an interesting day in the North West documenting a major family-centred renovation project due to feature on George Clarke’s Remarkable Renovations on Channel 4.

Working alongside a producer/director and videographer, the brief combined architectural interiors, lifestyle photography, portraits and drone imagery to help tell the story of how the redesigned home would support everyday family life.

CLX Professionals and Costa

I worked on my first commission for CLX Professionals in April, photographing the newly-completed Costa Drive Thru in Market Harborough.

It was an early start to photograph the space before the morning rush, while still working around a live store environment. The brief combined wider interior views, detail shots highlighting the quality of manufacture and more documentary-style images showing the counters in use.

With diaries tight on all sides, it was also a quick turnaround project, so it was lovely to hear the feedback was so positive.

Research showcase event, University of Leicester montage

University of Leicester Research Week

It was a pleasure to work at the University and photograph two days of the Research Culture Takeover Week, covering research showcase events alongside Disrupting the Default, an external conference exploring how race and racialisation shape research culture and researchers’ experiences.

My role was to capture activity across a mix of lecture-theatre presentations, small group discussions, seminars and informal networking, alongside live illustrated note-taking which visualised many of the discussions in real time. The conversations across both days were genuinely thought-provoking and there was a real sense of openness and collaboration throughout.

Disrupting the Default highlights, University of Leicester

Both the UK and international leadership teams for Dawsongroup were photographed across two separate shoot days in March and April at different locations.

The project combined studio-style portraits with environmental group photography, with consistency across both shoots being key so the final images could sit seamlessly alongside each other. The portraits were shot against a neutral grey backdrop to give maximum flexibility, giving them the options to swap out the background colour further down the line if required.
